International DelegationsAn international delegation is an official group of 10 or more attendees from a country other than the United States that is organized on a national level. At least 25 countries organized official delegations for BIO 2006 in Chicago, Illinois. In many instances the delegations included or were led by high-level state and federal public officials, such as premiers and parliament ministers. Typically, an international delegation organizer is from a national government (economic development office, for instance) and works in concert with biotechnology associations, state government offices, and industry to organize and attract participation from a particular country. Participation goals usually include showcasing the country’s national and regional biotechnology assets, assisting companies in making qualified contacts with other companies and organizations from the United States and around the world, and attracting investment to the country. International Delegation OrganizersThis group is composed of U.S.-based staff from the organization or agency organizing the delegation. The group receives important updates on a monthly basis about the programs being held at the BIO International Convention in Boston. If the entity organizing your delegation has a U.S. office, and you plan to work with contacts from that office, please ask your contact to join this group by writing to international@bio.org. |
